Oncology Hospital :: Prostate Cancer Unit

Cancer of the prostate is the most common cancer among American men after lung cancer.

HCIH approach to treatment is based on a dynamic model of prostate cancer, in which physicians define therapeutic goals for each patient at the time of diagnosis and then redefine these goals as the disease unfolds.

Our comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment begins with a patient evaluation designed to identify prostate cancer in its earliest stages and determine whether the cancer is localised to the prostate or has spread to distant organs. Physicians then define treatment goals based on the characteristics of the cancer itself, prior treatments that the patient may or may not have received and his priorities regarding quality-of-life issues. In cases where cure is possible, treatment is designed to maximise success with the fewest possible side effects.

We are focused on early detection and accurate diagnosis of the most common urological cancers, being prostate and bladder but also kidney, testes and penis.

These cancers can be diagnosed early through routine urological check-ups. Full assessment of the prostate and directed screening for prostate cancer is available.

Painless blood in the urine is the most common way of presentation for bladder and urothelial cancer; haematuria screening is also available to rule out this disease or achieve an early diagnosis. Curative and palliative treatment of urological malignancies will be available using a multidisciplinary approach.

Team: specialists in urology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology, radiology, anaesthesiology, psychiatry, sexual medicine, surgery and nutrition.
