Oncology Hospital :: Consultations

The unit of medical Oncology is constituted basically by two sectors: an area of external consultations (day-hospital) and an area of hospitalisation.

The MHC consultations work daily from Monday to Saturdays, with extended schedules in order to adapt to the needs of our patients.

First consultation

This is the first contact that the patient has with his Oncology physician. It basically consists of the accomplishment of a complete clinical history as well as exhaustive physical exploration. If the patient arrives at the hospital diagnosed and staged, he or she will have the first approach to the therapeutic options to not delay the beginning of the treatment. Otherwise those tests will start and the doctor considers if it is necessary to complete a study and to focus on the treatment.

Staging: If tests show that you have a cancer, additional examinations may be performed to determine its extent - a process called staging. Knowing how far your cancer has progressed is important when deciding what regime of treatment might be most appropriate for you.

Treatment consultations

Once diagnosed, staged and decided that the therapeutic plan will be followed the patient will be observed whenever he receives treatment.  Consultations of pursuit: once the active treatments have been finalised, the patient begins to be monitored closely with the objective to maintain his state of health and control the disease.

Family consultation

By means of this consultation, all questions or doubts that the patient or family has can be addressed. This can be done at any time before, during or after the treatment process. Our specialists review medical history, providing their expert opinion and giving access to the different prognosis, diagnostic programs and individualised treatment previous to the consultation with the patient.

Derivation, second opinion

A second opinion on a diagnosis takes place every time in cancer cases. Doubtlessly, this news must have an impact on the patients and their choice of surroundings since it is difficult to assimilate and not always accompanied with sufficient information.
Therefore the object of these consultations is usually the search for more detailed information and/or a comparison of opinions.
